RE: Composite ARF Mig29
I too am interested in the MTH hydraulics for my yellow 1/7 F18 twin/twin turbines. The installation diagram from MTH calls for 4mm festo line to the gear and door cylinders, How is everyone converting the air cylinders from 3mm to 4mm, Or does it work using 3mm lines ? I haven't checked with Ultra Precision, but most black O rings are NBR (Nitrile Butyl Rubber) and safe with most all Pertroleum based hydraulic fluids. The Green O rings are safe with most of the synthetic hydraulic fluids.

Hi Ro,
Actually, the car shock oil comes in a whole range of weights/viscosities and the lower weight stuff is very low viscosity.....less than the hydraulic fluid. I am wondering what sort of seals these cylinders have as that is the main determinant of what type of oil you can run. If they are standard O-rings, I would not be using anything that is mineral oil based as it will dissolve the O-rings eventually. Silicone oil would be safe to use on the other hand.
I must stress that I am no hydraulics expert but I have about 15 rc cars so I know a little when it comes to shock oil .
Craig.
Hey Craig,
If not using hydraulic fluid I would only use baby oil as it is mineral oil. The silicone used in the rc car shocks is very thick and will not be something you would want to use in a hydraulic system.
I'm no pro at any of this stuff but just my 2c mate.

Hey Craig,
I just picked up that new MP9 team edition so I can get in on some of the 8th scale buggy racing in Germany! Been many years so should be a nice change for a bit.
I never knew mineral oil would break down O-rings. I hear Mark Froehn "CompArf Rep" uses baby oil with no problems and has over 50 flights last time I spoke to him.
I rebuild one of my cylinders due to the fact it was leaking but never inspected the seals or anything. "Hysol work perfect for resealing the threads on your rams if needed"

I've been working some other projects here at home but I'm looking forward to getting back on the Mig. When's the big move? Are you going to be doing the same kind of work in Germany? That would be awesome if you could locate me a set of accessories after you get settled in. I would think baby oil would work great and if you get the scented oil you could sniff out the leaks. Stay in touch my friend.
Best regards

Hi Ro,
Not lately mate. Been tooling around with electric models and helis and finishing my global jet club hawk. Almost done now then back to the mig. Sometimes you just need a bit of light relief with models you can just throw around and do stupid stuff with!
How about you......doing anything on your mig?
Craig.

RE: Composite ARF Mig29
Hi Ro
I've been working on a kitchen renovation so no progress on the Mig. My friend John makes scale jet landing gear, I'm sure you've heard of his company Matrix machine. He borrowed one of my main struts and the two brackets so he could design some mains that would fit in the Mig landing gear space and yet be air operated with up and down locks. His nose gear looks awesome. Check out his website. I may switch mine over to his gear and eliminate all of the hydraulics.
Did you move to Germany?
Best regards

RE: Composite ARF Mig29
Hey guys,
Getting the house ready to rent and heading out to Germany last week of Aug.
Yeah the matrix stuff is cool John but I like the geek factor of the hydro setup! My upper ramps will me controlled by servos everything else is hydro.
will be some time before I can get back on the mig. I will not be in my own house in Germany for 3 months. When we are settled and have all my things
I will be all over it to get it completed. I sold everything but my mig29 and Elan! Makes packing easy and trouble free
Just making room for all the stuff I know I will want from Germany after Im there!
Wish you guys the best and hope to see some building on this thread soon
Cheers,
Ro

RE: Composite ARF Mig29
Hey Guys,
I hope everyone is doing well; I have finally come up for air, work has been crazy trying to finish up Inferno for EA. Last week I was able to finish up two cockpit orders for Per Strommen and Kevin Gardiner. I just wanted to let you guys know that I have tried to get ahead a little bit to have at least one cockpit on hand so it does not take me month to create one. I have a third cockpit ready and a 4th in the works.
Here are a few pictures.
Again, I hope everyone is doing well.
David.

David,
Just put the Mig-29 back on the building table. Got the fins on, corrected the stab mounting and produced the Dragchute tube and mechanism this week. Speedbrakes next.

Looking good Guys,
Nice work Per; looks like things are coming along nicely.
Lavi did you say "late" Mig 29??? I hope she did not meet the ground harder than normal.

Hi Peter,
Great photos of your mig! Sad to hear that you no longer have it. Looking at your photos reminded me how much more attractive the "A" model is compared to the "C" version. I have been finishing a comp arf flash at the moment but then I am back on my mig until the end!
Craig.

RE: Composite ARF Mig29
Very sorry to hear about the loss of the Mig Lavi; she sure was beautiful!
Was it a radio problem? I am still on the fence about 2.4; I have seen several High dollar aircraft go in after a lock out. I know that the JR Fast system is suppose to be a allot better now but dose anyone have experience with the Weatronic system?

RE: Composite ARF Mig29
I have been flying Weatronic 2.4 all UK summer and here back in Australia. works to perfection. I have a Micro 12 installed in a Bobcat and a large DR12-30 gyro 111 plus GPS in a PST Reaction. All recorded data reveals perfect operation.
My Mig 29 is just waiting new engine installation ( 2x PST 1300s ) and will have a Weatronic 2.4 DR installed, greatly easing flight control operation, particularly synchronization of the two servos on each stab. and accurate flap set-up. I particularly like the servo position adjustment which is now done by the up/down keys on the computer allowing 4096 steps, which enables incredibly accurate set-ups. I have Weatronics DRs installed on both of my Airworld Hawks and they also continue to perform flawlessly on 36 MHz. so there is still a LOT of life left in older systems.
My experience is that this radio is far more advanced than any other radio and the data acqusition system reveals its exact performance. To date not a single frame loss. It is encouraging also to hear the very positive comments from some technical experts on another thread about this system.
Good luck with your Mig, too, Per, its a fabulous flier, and so sorry to hear about your loss, Lavi.
Regards, David Gladwin.
PS Has anyone putb their minds to redesigning the stab tubes and shafts to run slop-free in ball races ?

Hello David,
mine went in due to the starboard engine blowing up right after takeoff....thus destroying and cutting off the starboard stabilizer wiring along with the rudder wiring....she can't fly much on one mono-block......what a scene :-) the most amazing explosion I have ever seen in a model....
But I have been working on this little creation for the past two years and hopefully she will be available as a kit soon....this is the prototype.
Regards
Peter

Hey Guys,
Nice new project lavi rider!
your Mig29 was very spectacular. Love to see more flight videos if you have them.
I have been out of the loop for some time now.

Hey Guys,
Things have been quiet for a while; I was wondering if anyone has links to where I can find out more info on the Omega gear system?
I hope everyone is doing well?

Hey guys.
Sorry to drag up an old thread. Just wondering if anyone has the detail package with the lights and sensors offered by Heiko Gartner that they would like to sell or if anyone knows where could find one. I've made some of the parts myself but the smaller stuff looks tricky.
Thanks in advance
Levi
