Concur, don't use a mix. With every throttle change the mix would be instantaneous while the actual throttle response would lag, creating problems rather than solving them.

The issue at hand is the exhaust flowing...

The issue at hand is the exhaust flowing underneath the horizontal stab, which creates a low pressure area there, pitching the nose up. More exhaust = more of that effect and vice-versa.
