RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

I've been lurking and reading your amazing build, and am in total awe. I've about given up building, I was working on a Vailly "Dawg" along with Chic, trying to keep up with him. (little known is I...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

You're a Longfellow with short feet, Chic, just don't quit your day job:) Glad you're back in the groove, the Avenger is looking good.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I...... I took out...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

I had to remove some of the rear of the cylinder material on the dummy to clear the G-26, it grinds out easily with a burr on a Dremel tool. Did you see the price of the Aerotec stuff? If you want to...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

Save the 9-cyl for a future P-47 project:)

Aerotec does make a 7-cyl kit. Sort of pricey, is resin cast, but looks good and can be nicely detailed. That is what I used on my UMF Waco....

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

Chic, howya been? I feel for you, with the furnace replacement. It's bad enough trying to keep the tank full and the old one I have running, and I seriously dread the day I have to replace mine.

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

I'm afraid my center section wouldn't hold much in the way of landing gear, since I'm building an L-19 (high wing):). I'm just poking at Chic because he's so fickle, falling out of love with his...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

I think I hear an almost-finished BirdDog whimpering in the cold, damp corner of the workshop, begging to get finished:D

Of course, I got a lot of room to talk:eek:

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

12 HP ? What lawnmower did you tear that engine off of?:D What does BME stand for anyway, Big Mother Engine? Does 115 mean cubic centimeters or cubic inches?:):)

My only beef with radials is...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

Chic, This is only speculation on my part, but I can't think of any aircraft built by other countries that the US used during WWII. The only thing that comes to mind off the top of my head was the...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

Chic, found a couple of color pics similar to the scheme in the photo you posted earlier. The only "problem" is that they are of a MkII, or TBM-1C, which has the concealed tailhook as well as some...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

So did I, but I didn't get "lucky"[sm=cry_smile.gif]. I did get some moolah, though.

Personally, I'd like to trade about half my birthdays in on something.......anything. Oh, to be 27 again, and...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

You got me interested in the plane, I've always been a fan of these big guys, but never had incentive to read up on them until now.

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

The reading that I've been doing says that it was initially called Tarpon by the Brits when the TBF's were being built, but they discontinued the use of that name and started using Avenger about the...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

This should be a great build, looking forward to watching the Avenger take shape. I didn't know the Brits even used these planes, and the color scheme is definitely more interesting than the US...
