I am not sure why you think you need to reinforce the spar -- I have many flights on mine and I simply use the wing tube and struts provided... I did reinforce my landing gear by tying the two gear...

Neither am I, but SolarTex is so easy to apply it makes anyone look good at covering... If you decide to recover then SolarTex is the only way to go...
