Soft mount and engine movement
How much rotational movement will a YS 140 have on a Hyde soft mount? I want to build some air dams to control air movement over the engine. I have no experience with soft mounted engines. Thank you.

Hi Ken,
It depends on which mount used. Typically there is ring to 'capture' movement at the drive washer, either part of the mount or attached to the front of the fuselage. This limits actual movement. Check out the Hyde mounts shown here: https://www.centralhobbies.com/cat3....=31&subcat=143

The engine is contained wholly within the cowl so I just need to add the air dams. They will be attached to the bottom cowl half so I don't want the engine banging into them and destroying the slightly fragile cowl mounts.

Not only can the engine flex sideways 1cm or so, it'll also stretch forward 0.5-1mm depending on the exact type of hyde. This mean you can get some throttle servo binding at full chat, which of course you won't be able to hear but it will take your battery down some. Set up the throttle servo accordingly to allow for the very last ounce of movement to be delivered with full throttle/mount stretch.
A wonderful, happy, friendly and low maintenance YS the 1.40.
