I used a G.I. Joe Tuskegee Fighter Pilot figure. It was made in 1991 and I got it on Ebay for 15 bucks.

Goop and screw is the way to go. I also had to cut the front of the included cockpit interior to allow for his legs to stick through into the fuse. I thought of just cutting his legs short like...
