RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I have over 500 flights on mine with the stock Robarts and don't feel the mods are necessary. But, I don't bounce mine on landing. The plane is only 22 lbs and is a straightforward flyer. I did...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I recently purchased a Tru-Turn spinner for my TF GS P51 and it is really nice. They drilled the backplate for the mounting bolts and also the center hole to match my engine exactly (a Taurus 52cc)....

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Yes, I was using the stock TF spinner with the screws. I have been using a little blue threadlocker on the screws and never had any problem with them coming loose or the spinner itself. The spinner...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Spinner Question:

I had a mishap today and dented my spinner bad enough to where I will need to replace it. For those who have used other spinners with this plane, do you have any preferences...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

For those of you using Sierra Precision retracts, how do you like them? How much better are they than the Robart gear? How much to the Sierra mains cost?

I am using the Robart gear, but have...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

You did a beautiful job with that plane. It looks great! I really like the Bald Eagle scheme and the weathering.

You did a beautiful job with that plane! The rivet detail is fantastic!

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

One more question I forgot to ask before. What smoke system are you using and what size smoke oil tank? The smoke looks great in the video.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Nice flying! It looks like you were having fun! Beautiful landing. That's the way it's done!

The MT57 looks like it performs well. Have you been happy with the engine?

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Chris,

That is one of the nicest TFP51 ARFs that I've seen. The aluminum looks great.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

How about just re plumbing all the airlines? It's not expensive or that much work and will ensure that everything is tight. I my mind it's not worth the risk of having to make a belly landing.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Nothing better than an afternoon of formation flying and follow-the-leader!

On landing, the FW got a little slow and didn't have a good approach angle. Nice landing with the P-51.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

I have found this to happen on my TFGS P51 if the tail comes down too soon during rollout. It helps to keep the tail flying as long as possible by not giving any up elevator once the plane has...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Wow! A DA85 in the TF GS P51. That's insane power! A 20x16 is way too little prop for that plane. I imagine the 24x14 was much better. Did you have to add a lot of weight to the tail?

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Doomking,

Congratulations on the maiden! It's nice to get those first few flights in with success. It's a fun plane to fly! Now is a good time to check everything over to make sure that...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Very nice! That's a fun plane isn't it? It's one of my favorites because it is such a simple plane and so easy to land. It's my "mule" warbird. The smoke looks good!

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Michel,

I had the same problem with the elevator pushrod tubes and discovered that all the friction was occurring in the tubes near the exits and the portions inside the tail retract area. The...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Nick,

Thanks for the information. This thread is great, but it's long!

I did not make any reinforcement on my TFGSP51 and so far have not had any issues. Before I installed the retracts,...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Michel,

In that last picture, did that happen from just a hard landing? Seems like a lot of damage.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I set my cg per the manual and it was fine. This is one sweet plane to fly and is a perfect transition to 1/4 scale. It is rock solid on final and is easy to land. It will also fly very slow for a...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Here's my TF P51 ARF that I maidened on Sunday. It has a Taurus 52cc engine with a B&B muffler. I am using the Robart air retracts. The plane flew very well and was easy to land. The flaps are...
