RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

FYI

The 3W-55 will fit without cutting the cowl. My cowl is cut only to fit the scale Keleo P-51 exhaust. More expensive but it looks and sounds neat. That being said, if I had it to do over...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

When you cut off the excesss trim on the canopy cut a little of at a time. It may take 3 cuts before you get to the final cut. Taking to much off at a time tends to tear the plastic. By the way you...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I think it will depend on the kind of muffler you have. I have the Keleo P-51 pipes on mine which does require cutting the cowl but the look and sound is worth it. A guy I know has the DA-50 in his...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

A DA-50 is the perfect engine for this plane. No side cowl cutting necessary and plenty of dependable power. Cut the bottom for head cooling and a muffler to stick out and you're all set. The...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I am using the spinner supplied and it works fine. And your DA-50 is a perfect engine for the Top Flight P-51. The spinner is a little more work when changing props and a word of caution. Because of...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I don't know the history or training of the pilots and if they weren't landing in formation there was a huge mis judgement in the speed of the two planes to allow for safe separation.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

A sad day indeed.

The problem as I see it, there are guys out there that can afford these toys but don't have the proper training to fly them let alone formation flying. Formation flying takes...

Nice looking plane. I like the canopy detail. You'll like the way it flies. What is the F-80 all about?

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I have not used them but I saw them at the Toledo show in April. I thought they were the cats meow. About $300 for the retrofit. Don't remember if he had the tail wheel or not. I flew my P-51 for...

I called the owner of Keleo and I was lucky that he made an extra exhaust system for a 3W-55 and I was fortunate to get that one. Other wise it would have been a 6 week wait just like your...

I don't have a db meter but from what I could remember I'd say it is no louder than a typical DA-50 with a Pitts style muffler. The next time he brings it to the field I'll pay...

It looks like you built a box like mount that slides in the fuselage. I would think that will be stronger than my situation. Since mine is an ARF it would be difficult to do the...

Thanks for responding. I remeasured the distance (along with a guy that knows more than I ) and the carb will extend 2 2/3" into the fuselage. I just ordered the engine mount and 1 3/4 "...
