I had this problem too, What I did was to arc or bend the rod were nessesary to relieve the binding.

It's not an easy job. If you have finished the model, then I would say leave it. Because when the wings are joined already, it just makes surgury a little bit longer.

Good job Gary. Since I was removing the fiberglass wheel wells,I went in through the top wing sheeting. Only because I could'nt get one of the wells out without cracking the top wing skin.

Dasintex, The dimension from the end of the "ram rod" to the L bend is 1/4". Sorry no picture.

I simply had a similar problem and wound up not using them. I made my own out of micro balloons and epoxy.

Yup, thats the right air cylinder I used for the inner gear doors rrrrr(robart #165)

The tail wheel dia. I used is 2 1/4". (kavan from hobby lobby)

You are 100 % correct again.
There is no rear springs to close the doors, just the front ones.
I eliminated the the rudder servo all together (to save weight and keep the aft end of the model...

Now, Today I've maidened the P-51 and absolutelly every thing went flawless.
