RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Unless a person has really deep pockets the will mix servos like this and put the digital ones where they are needed.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Mike,

I have seen hatches done several ways. The easiest is to build a little open top box that is big enough to put all of your swithches, charge jack, retract fill valve, and anything else you...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I also fly from a grass field, and have had no problems with nose overs. I do make sure that there is no down trimed into the elevator for the takeoff run. The other thing is to not advance the...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I use nylon bolts on mine also. But I switched to the black ones by I think Dubro. I like the hex head and you can also use a hex driver if you want.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

My pilot had everything removed below the hips. I kept just his rump to prop him up on the seat to the correct height.
I think that cutting the foot rests is a viable alternative, if his feet won't...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

If your fuel tank is in the stock location, then yes what you say is true. Most people who fly these planes will balance them with an empty tank, and then fuel will make them nose heavy. You fly it...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Nick,

I did get the Top Flite wing replacement kit for my Mustang. I checked out the retract bays, and the grain on the sheer webbs is running the correct direction on them. I did notice that...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Nick,

When you build a main spar, it is generally built using 3/8 square or larger stringers from root to tip the length of the wing. These are then locked together using balsa which is glued to...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Nick,

Be very careful when you repair the wing after having your landing gear ripped out. I had this happen with mine and on the first flight after repairing it the whole mounting block and rib...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

The problem with flying a plane with out a pilot, is that you don't have anyone to blame if you dumb thumb it but your self.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Nick,

Mine is actually being flown by my ground technician, until I can find the one I want. I went to WallyWorld, and bought an 88cent soldier figure off of the cheap toy counter, you know...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Mike,

Even if you have to cut a hole in the firewall for the carb, there won't be a problem. Between this thread and a couple of others, you would be amazed at how much of the firewall guys are...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Mike,

The problem with lightening this plane is that it is built to withstand the vibrations of a gas motor. Most if not all of the structure is needed. I built this plane for electric, and...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

ace,

I don't know how much of this or the other threads you have read about this plane, but with a G-62 there is no way to avoid butchering the cowl on this plane. Most of the guys that keep...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

The firewall has right and down thrust built into it. The cross hairs are not in the center because that would make the spinner off. I used them for my reference marks when I mounted my engine, and...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

You should be able to find several suitable substitutes for the BBD, that still use the black/white checkerboard at this site.

RE: Scale cockpit - Wow

You should really like it with the US 41. I really think that so many of these planes get build with way to much power, and then the pilot gets used to all that power, and doesn't really learn to...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Frank,

Congratulations!!!

There are no stupid questions, just uninformed opinions....:)

You are right about the way that this plane flies. It is like a really good pattern plane that...

RE: Scale cockpit - Wow

Frank,
Yes I did use a pilot. He is an 88cent action figure from you guessed it, Wal-mart. He doesn't look WW2 peiod, but is OK!
I used to work for Wal-Mart. I gave them 20 years. That was...

Frank,

Sorry to hear about your issues with a pilot...

How far do you think Tuscaloosa is from Rogers Arkansas?

Do you think that they could stand to have two of these on hand. Maybe...

RE: Scale cockpit - Wow

Frank,

The wing on this airplane creates a lot of lift. For take off, I don't use any flaps just plenty of airspeed. I open the throttle and then slowly push it forward so that the torque effect...

RE: Scale cockpit - Wow

Frank,

If you put the V on the wrong side you will see that the wing won't line up correctly. It also won't look right. I just dry fit mine and put the wing halvs together first to see which way...
