Welcome to Club SAITO !
My Evo 61 with a Jetstream muffler turns a 10x9 at 14750, that calculates to 109.2 mph. My first Strega was clocked at 115, 123 & 119 mph straight and level with that set up before it turned into a balsa cloud. I have another nib, I'm seriously considering an os 95 and lots of reinforcement in the right places.
2 strokes are better for top speed pound for pound imo, given the plane isn't some sort of drag queen. They also typically unload more in the air. Jim's MM should be a slick enough airframe to break 120 mph with a 70 2 stroke unless those engines are just pigs.

Yes sir that is before, I left the vent in the front, although I have an extra back plate with a rear vent but wanted you guys all to sleep better. That makes three 56's now, too many probably. Geekster, what is an MM? Thanks
There is also a 3.2 oz advantage for the Saito and more when the mufflers are included.

it's the same regulator I posted before, it mount's right on the main needle assembly, it's an OS Heli regulator,,

Even if an fa82b could turn a 12x10 at 10,000 rpm it only calculates to 82.2 mph,

I have 2 choices,
1) cut up a huge hole on the bottom of the Cowl for the Saito 82's head to stick out..
2) or cut a whole on the side of the Cowl for the 70"s muffler to hang out..
oops) I guess I have a 3rd choice, I could cut a big round hole on the top of the Cowl and mount my K&B 100 on it..

Gary, this one in the box is my 2nd one, my wife bought it for me after I crashed the first one, it calls for a 120, but I think a 120 is way to small,, I had my MVVS 35cc Gasser on the first one with a Inverted Side Muffler with a 3W 20X8 (tuned to 7200 RPM for flight), and it was a very good setup, it had good speed and it had good climb out power, it was powerful but not a super plane, just a good setup, if some one wanted it to be a power house a 40cc gasser would do it.. I now have a Super Tartan 44cc Twin (Glow'er) I was going to put in it, but I am going to stick with the .60 size planes,,,I did see one on-line once that had a Moki 60 flat twin on it..
Jim
this is my first one here,,

I have this one too, but it needs work, it needs a new wing (I have the ribs), needs a new cowl ($35) and new landing gear, it had a G38 in it when I bought it, it flew like crap, the wing flexed do-to it needed shear wedding, , the engine was a dog compared to my MVVS, it has a 73" span a Cord of 16 &1/4". and is as heavy as the GeeBee with that G38 in it, right around 15 pounds.

I told Dave the other day that I was going to put my FA 82 in my GP ShoeString, on it's side or up side down I will have to cut a big hole in the cowl, to mount it upside down I will have to glue in/plug the holes in the engine wall and drill new holes, plus the prop calculator tells me I will loose performance to what the OS 61 performed.. well I am sick of messing around with it! a big muffler may not look scale hanging off the side of the plane, but the OS 70sz is a bolt on fit and it's never been started. and the regulator is a bolt on fit. I will get a photo of the SZ, I gave it a hair cut

Dave, after reading your post I re calculated the numbers, if the 82 will turn an APC 11x10 at 9500 it will run very close to the OS 61FX at 11800 with an APC 11X8.. any way, I talked to my son today about it, and he does not like the big muffler hanging out the side of that pretty and new cowl, I don't blame him for that, so it's back to the 82 I guess..

PS, check valve in the pressure tap of course.

My bad, Jim has so many projects going I lose track. Thought he was talking about his Midget Mustang. That said yes, a Saito 82 on a 7-8 lb. GP Shoestring should gitty up pretty good huh?
A friend had one with a 91fx and mousse can muffler until he dumb thumbed it in a high speed low pass knife edge. That baby really booked, until it didn't. I helped him pick up the pieces and gotta say there were A LOT of them. We never clocked it but it was without doubt the fastest plane I ever seen fly at our field.

The rough notes
A hot day engine test, 16 oz of fuel used: New Boca Bearings, new lifters, new ring, all new gaskets.
Saito newly rebuilt .56, late front vent version.
Three props, APC 12 x 6, Xoar 12 x 6, Xoar 12 x 7
Two exhaust, stock cast, (revised)., and Turbo-Header, TH only used on the Xoar 12 x 7.
Fuel===Wildcat 10%/18% full synthetic
Plug===Taipan 4 c
APC 12 x 6 max rpm=====9,710
Xoar 12 x 6============9,830, a small surprise
Xoar 12 x 7============9,080
Xoar 12 x 7/Turbo-Header=9,210
Idle 2,200 all props
At the end of 16 oz of fuel it has super compression, the kind where you need to get your finger out of the way right now.

where is it cold today where you can not feel, may it be the heat, I made a riddle. only 5 replies not counting mine,
Pete, yes Jim Beam blew up for a 2nd time.. so I guess you don't like Jim Beam, the oldest Bourbon in the states it is, I tell you that people like that Jack stuff, but a super taster will tell you it taste's like charcoal.. they say Jim Beam will make you a man, I guess that's why they gave to the boys in WW11.
Dave, I did think about cutting off the ring on one of those regulators and tapping the hole, and mounting it right on the Saito carb, but I think it will be too weak, so I will make a mount and use a Banjo bolt to hold the regulator to the mount, and will tap the back side of the Banjo bolt and put a fuel barb on it, see photo. I have to get going, I have the tap and drills part numbers, I have to get going and oder them..
Lonnie, if they still made the ShoeString I would have bought one for my K&B 100, the K&B weighs the same as the OS 61, both with mufflers..
I thought I would be able to fly my Wolds Models P-40 tomorrow, but they say it 100% rain tomorrow

Thanks Lonnie, I stick to the old adage, watcha git, ya git, honesty is seldom questioned. The reason I used the TH with the 12 x 7 is that most times I use a middle of the recommended prop range prop. I just wanted to see how the TH did with a higher load. It did well
Thanks Pete, in the middle of posting that I got a call from my wife's Dr.to confirm an appointment on July 9. 8:30 AM.
Today I am going to be cutting up a 45 foot oak tree into 24" pieces to split for the winter. The Hunter, Gatherer thing keeps me young and still,keeps my shirt sleeves stretched.
That climbout angle you see is at take- off !
I will call Dave and get the particulars; wingspan, weight etc. Dave draws and scratch builds his planes from three views. Has a mighty fine fleet of them too.
